[TOUR REPORT] lầy quá, nhưng noi gương một ai đó nên lại phải cố gắng viết 🙁
– Tourist: Augusta and Sophie Thoo (Australian)
– Hotel: Hanoi Legacy, 39-41 Hang Ga
– Time: Thursday morning (22/12) 9 – 12:30 a.m
– Destination: Sword Lake – Cathedral – Lemon tea – Prison
– Description: It was a short tour and it was quite good. The girls were some years older than me but are very good-looking; one is a surgeon and the other is an engineer. We walked around the streets and they were amazed by the splendid beauty of the cathedral as it was near Christmas and by the cuteness of a bunch of kindergarten children dressing in Noel clothes playing around the cathedral. However, to lead them in the right way in the Old Quarter, I did need some help from the local, which may make me seem less professional as a tour guide (i admitted my drawback to them straight away, but they smiled and said it was okay as they got lost many times in their neighborhood). Eventually, it was one of the tourists using Google map to navigate the way that led us back to the hotel, not me. It was a little bit awkward for me, but the rest was perfectly fine.
(we got beautiful photos but all are in their mobiles phones, only one in my phone)
– Note: có ai biết là k có wifi hay 3G thì có dùng đc google map k? Hay chỉ cần bật GPS lển là đc?

Guides: Thanh Thanh + Huyen
This was the first time I’ve came to Bat Trang. Huyen convinced me to do the tour with her and I agreed although. I would have an exam next day. She did a good job despite her most attention to the youngest boy (either did I :v).
The family we guided is from Isarel, but they have lived in Hong Kong since 2 years. They have 3 boys, all of them are very cut, especially the youngest boy. He is 5 years old but he can speak 3 languages. He even taught English for Huyen as well, haha. At the first time we met, he came toward and said “Hello, I’m …. (I forgot his name). Nice to meet you” and shook our hands as an aldult. During the tour, we could not stop laughing at everything he did and said.
OMG, I have no more words to express my feeling with him. This was so awesome!

Best free tour guides, best tour ever! Hanoikids Tour

5 stars for every aspect of this tour!

After experiencing a half day free tour with hanoikids, I see why they are top 1 thing to do on tripadvisor. Chi and Duc were amazing tour guides, they were so knowledgeable about Hanoi sights and Vietnamese culture and history, we were so impressed! They catered the tour to our interests (history and culture) and as a result, we toured the Temple of Literature and Maison Centrale on a half day tour. They really made history come alive and were great at answering all of our questions. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone coming to Hanoi!

Amazing City tour with Hanoikids on tripadvisor!

We enjoyed our full day tour with HIen and Oanh. We spent a half day seeing temples and musuem, and a half day for street food walking tour in the Old Quater. And we had great experience. The 2 guides were so helpful and informative. Their English was perfect. We loved Banh mi and bun cha. The egg coffe was very worth trying.
Thank Hanoikids!

Wonderful experience

We were lucky to book a half day tour with Hanoi kids on Triapdvisor ! The whole experience was seamless. They met us at the hotel. We chatted about what we could see that morning. After we had decided on the Museum of Ethnology they called for a taxi so we could maximize our morning experience. Our two guides, Ali and Phuong spoke English very well. They were knowledgable about the history of the country and different cultures. They were such personable lovely companions. We chatted effortlessly about many topics all morning. We were pleased they had time to join us for lunch. We enjoyed Bun Cha at one of the most popular restaurants that we would never had found on our own. All in all it was a unique opportunity to learn about local life and history. This is a voluntary organization that is offering a truly amazing free tour service. It books up quickly so it’s best to arrange as soon as you know you will be in Hanoi. They have many different tour suggestions and will customize to your time and interests. The online booking was easy through their website, or hanoikids tour tripadisor booking. I emailed our request and received a reply that same day.
Thank you Hanoi kids, thank you triapdvisor for showing me Hanoikids tour. You provide a truly unique professional experience.

We had a tour with Joy today. We visited Temple of Literature and Ho Chi Minh complex. Joy was fantastic – great command of English, very knowledgable and great company. We learned a lot. We were taken aback that she provided this service to improve her English and wouldn’t accept payment. Many thanks to Hanoikids for making this possible

Wonderful morning with Hanoikids travel mates

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with our Hanoikids “travel mates” today! Lan & Ollie met us as planned at our hotel, and we jumped in a taxi heading for the French Quarter as we had requested when we booked online. Lan asked where else we had been in Hanoi (basically nowhere), so when she suggested that we visit the Temple of Literature first, we followed her lead & are very glad. As a professor, my husband really appreciated the emphasis on learning in Vietnam, dating back to 1070. As we strolled thru the different buildings in the complex, our Hanoikids hosts made history come alive…a terrific experience! We so enjoyed the French colonial architecture in St. Joseph’s Cathedral and Hanoi Opera House as well as the ritzy Metropole Hotel, along with a running commentary regarding what we were seeing.
We ate lunch at Net Hue cuz it’s Ollie’s favorite and again, we’re sure glad we did. We greatly appreciated the air conditioning after a morning of walking through the French and Old Quarter, and that he ordered for us (nice selection of 2 different fresh spring rolls, a fried spring roll and a dumpling which we all shared.). We especially liked the Nem Lui (fresh spring rolls with grilled ground pork on a stalk of lemongrass). You assemble your spring roll with the provided ingredients: rice paper, vermicelli noodles, shredded carrots & bean sprouts, sliced cucumber & pineapple, various greens & herbs, with lemongrass/pork on top… Roll it, pull out the stalk leaving pork inside, dip in supplied sauces…Yummy and fun…thx to their instructions.
The Hanoikids on tripadvisor concept is fantastic, and was a good learning experience for all 4 of us (please note ALL of us making the Hawaiian “Shaka” sign in the photo!). We will book hanoikids tour on tripadvisor again when we return next year.

Half day tour with Huyen of Hanoikids  highly recommended

We spent a very warm morning with Huyen from Hanoikids tours on tripadvisor, a free tour booked directly through their website leading by hanoikids tour on tripadvisor before we left home. All we had to pay for was the taxi and entrance fees. It was completely our choice as to how we structured the tour and we decided to visit the temple of literature. Huyen was able to meet us at our hotel or at a meeting point near Hoan Kiem Lake. The tour was brilliant, informing us of many cultural aspects of the Vietnamese both historically and in current times, in a friendly and easy to understand manner. We would recommend this tour service to anyone.

It’s like friends taking you around Hanoi!

Booked 2 tours with HanoiKids, a half-day upon our arrival in Hanoi and then a full-day tour the next day.

The main objective of HanoiKids is to enable the “kids” (usually university students) to practice their conversational English while taking foreigners around Hanoi. You are at liberty to choose your own itinerary or take their recommendations or mix them.

We highly recommend engaging the HanoiKids as you get to meet the future leaders of Vietnam, engage them in conversation and understand their passion for their city. It’s a pity we don’t have this concept anywhere else, even in Ho Chi Minh City.

A special thanks to Mai (nickname) who took care of us on the first day, taught us how to cross Hanoi streets, introduced us to Bun Cha and told us where to buy Vietnamese coffee.

Another big thanks to S (nickname) who showed us how passionate she is about her country and towards children, took us around by taxi, shared a meal at a KOTO training restaurant (for disadvantaged children) with us and then took us to a local iced fruit yogurt stall to chill.

We learnt a lot about Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular and look forward to keeping in touch with them.

Sure, you don’t get professional tour guide (with their corny jokes) 5-star service and move around in air-conditioned transport but you get real Hanoi youths sharing their passion with you. We saw a side of Hanoi that the professional tour agencies will not take us to unless you pay through your nose to get a personal guide to take you around.

For my wife and I, we will choose this way 10 times out of 10 times.

Please do book early to avoid disappointment.

Expected and Unexpected Lovely Experience.

We just completed the tour today with Huy from HanoiKids tripadvisor. We want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! It was such a positive experience. Huy was so friendly and we were very relaxed during the tour like friends hanging out. He made us feel very comfortable and he was very knowledgeable. He took his time to explain many historical values and helped us to understand life in HaNoi. The free tour is very flexible and you can do as much or as little as you want. We were not stuck to a rigid schedule. We had a very good time and so full from all the great foods we tried together. We made a new friend here from HaNoi and we thank you so much! Highly recommend Huy and HaNoikids tour compare to massive bus tour groups if you are ever in HaNoi.

Fascinating walking tour of Hanoi

We spent a fascinating and relaxed morning exploring the streets of the Old Quarter and the French Quarter of Hanoi with our friendly guides, Huy and Linh. Not only were they very accommodating to our interests but knowledgeable about the history and culture as well as recommending certain specialty food items and introducing us to some delicious coconut and rice flake ice-cream. Cannot speak highly enough of our experience and of this tour company run by a volunteer organisation. What a fantastic concept and one I am glad to support.

“The best way to explore Hanoi
Reviewed 16 August 2016

We booked two half day trips with Hanoi Kids and were very impressed by the value and service.

On our first day we explored Temple of Literature and Hoa La Prison with Linh (Pea Pea) and Moon. Both girls were knowledgeable and friendly. They even took us to a great coffee shop called Cong Caphe afterwards and used their own vouchers to save us money on the drinks which I thought was very selfless and kind.

On our second day we went to Ho Chih Minh Complex and Museum of Ethnology with Phoenix and Hye (unsure of spelling of this name). Both were also great guides. We left a camera in a taxi and they managed to get it back to us straight away.

The best thing about using these guides is that they give you a genuine insight into everyday life in Hanoi. You learn a lot more and provide a seamless service without even asking for a profit. They are also very genuinely interested in learning from the tourists and took time to ask us questions about life in England, and seemed to learn from us too which is great. They are truly an asset to the brand and Hanoi more generally!

Highly recommended. Make sure you book well in advance. Not a bad idea to split into 2 half days as you still get a lot done.

Free and a Good Way to See City Attractions
Tripadvisor Reviewed July 18, 2016

I found out about these tours two weeks before I went to Hanoi. Wish I would have found out about them earlier as I was only able to get a half-day tour due to solid bookings. It’s free and a local college student guided me through the Old Quarter visiting an old Vietnamese home, stopping off at the market and a place called Cong for refreshments. It was a great experience for both of us.

My suggestion is to contact them early in your travel planning as they are a very popular free tour that books quickly. All they ask is that you pay their admission fees, buy them coffee, lunch, or dinner and any other small incidentals you might incur on your tour.

Great Hanoi city tour with Hanoi Free Tour Guides ”  Tripadvisor

Hanoi Free Tour Guides was very prompt and professional in their email reply when I send a request for a Hanoi full day tour for 10 adults + 2 kids. We indicated the places where we wanted to go and nothing was too difficult for them. We were assigned 2 guides Phuong and Mai Anh, who emailed us a day prior to the tour. They picked us up separately as our group stayed at 2 different hotels. They spoke fluent English and Mandarin and were good with young kids and elderly =) Perhaps even better than the paid guides. They brought us to Ho Chin Minh Complex, One Pillar Pagoda and Literature Temple explaining the history and significance of the places, giving us a lot of interesting facts that were little known to many. We requested for a good egg coffee place, and they bought us to a quaint local cafe for desserts and coffee. They also brought us to a nice family friendly restaurant for lunch with delicious Bun Cha. The tour was free, and you only need to paid for attraction admissions, transportation and lunch which should be within USD 10 per pax. Thumbs up for Hanoi Free Tour Guides. I recommend everyone to go for them. You will be missing out if you don’t.

EXCELLENT free tour local tours all around!
Pasadena, California

This was one of the best things my husband and I did in Hanoi. Our guide, Trang, took us around Hanoi for half a day and shared with us a wealth of information we wouldn’t have known otherwise. Trang’s English was really good and we were so impressed with her knowledge of the city and country. At one point, we got hungry so Trang took us to one of the best Bun Cha restaurants in the city and taught us how to eat the dish. After lunch, she showed us around Hoa Lo prison and guided us the entire place as if she’s been doing this for years!

At first, we were a bit skeptical about booking a free tour with hanoi free tour guides on Tripadvisor but we were so happy we gave it a try. We’ve been recommending them to all the travelers we’ve met along the way and will definitely contact them again when we get to HCMC.

This is a private tour but it’s free as the volunteers are students who wants to practice their English, and I’d reckon this is the best thing that I’ve done for our trip in Hanoi!

We were so lucky to have Thu, our tour guide for the day. She brought us to the touristy spots and also very knowledgeable with the history and culture of Hanoi. We had a lot of fun especially with the jumping shots!! Thu was so kind that she even walked us to the restaurant that we want to try, which is out of the way and the total timing was exceeded for about 2 hours!

Thank you Thu, for the lovely experience that we have had 🙂 Highly recommended tour for anyone who wants to experience what is Hanoi all about!

A great informative day

Dung contacted us by email the night before to introduce herself and then met us at our hotel the following morning and accompanied us for the whole day taking us to the Museum of Ethnology and on a tour of the Old Quarter. I am sure we could have managed both of these activities on our own (indeed the latter we did many times) but the knowledge Dung bought to the tour meant we did and saw things we would not have experienced on our own, including wandering down a passage to drink egg coffee and visit the house at 48 Hang Ngang street where President Ho Chi Minh wrote the Declaration of Independence.

She has a great personality and sense of humour and bonded well with our daughter who is of a similar age. A great ambassador not only for the Hanoi Free Tour Guides but Hanoi and Vietnam.

The service offered by Hanoi Free Tour Guides is a great service for visitors to the area and we recommend highly that people take advantage of the opportunity it brings.

I booked a full day tour from 8 AM – 4 PM and the day flew by walking around Hanoi with two lovely ladies who showed me the sights of the city. We visited the HCM complex, Temple of Literature and Hoa Lo Prison. These three sites alone took a good chunk of the day because there was so much to see at each place. They also showed me key landmarks around the Old Quarter from the lake to the cathedral and opera house. We took a taxi to some places, which was very cheap and walked to other places. Being that they volunteered their time to take me around the city, I paid for all of their expenses for the day including taxi, lunch, coffee breaks, which all ended up being a nominal sum at the end of the day. I tried giving each of them a 200,000 VND tip, but they seemed hesitant to accept it and said that they would give it to their organization as a donation. I would definitely love to use them again my next time here!

A good experience but maybe not in Vietnam
Brussels, Belgium
It’s my very first experience with hanoi free tour guides and I’m happy I did it. It’s for free. He didn’t accept my tip.
But I thought I would be passive and listen to their comments.
But in reality, I had to make a special effort in order to understand what he was talking about. Indeed, it is normal that they make grammatical or vocabulary errors. But they have the bad habit not to pronounce all the letters.
For example, for 26, they wil pronounce ‘twenty si’.
Guides usually don’t speak load and with the vietnamese accent.
That means that you have to concentrate to understand what he says.
Their objective is to practice their English which is a noble objective but their pronounciating was a problem to my eyes (ears) to fully enjoy this experiment.
Nevertheless, I have given 4 out of 5.
If I try this tour in another Asian country, I will probably ask for the oldest student in order to minimize the problem.

We had several tours booked with Hanoi Free Tour Guides and enjoyed everyone of them. Each tour started with two students meeting us in our hotel lobby and discussing what we wanted to see. They were always on time, ordered taxis and showed us how to deal with the traffic – it really helped our kids feel more comfortable. Each of the students was also very knowledgeable about their history and culture and we were so lucky to get to know them. Thank-you so much for making our trip amazing. Discovering the beauty of Vietnam.

Special thanks to Ly London—who left a great impression as my guide to the Hanoi day trip. She made it a very memorable trip. A day before starting the tour trip, Ly sent an e-mail to introducing herself and keeping in touch to know my personal detail and asked if I wanted to see any place would like to visit or eat any specific food. We had been well in touch prior to meeting each other at the hotel lobby.(I stayed at Hilton Hanoi Opera)
We decided to start the trip at 8:30Hrs. I came a little late which I apologised for and then she replied me with a smile saying, “waiting is my happiness”. This completely touched me and took me off-guard the moment I met Ly.We then planned to catch a taxi to start our tour. First, we decided to visit Ho Chi Minh mausoleum—the mausoleum is big landscape, which within this landscape is shown the way of Ho Chi Minh’s love for his life and a feeling of love that Ho Chi Minh feels from the satisfaction of saving his country. Ly has an impeccable sense of her English and was very knowledgable with her guiding around the city. She helped with a lot of little things such as; helping with my cash payment, taking plenty of photos, telling a tick of vietnamese people—I felt very close to her and the tour guiding became completely natural. We then decided to visit the Litery temple and bought her lunch at Quan An Ngon restarant—which is highly recomendation on tripadvisor. The lunch was truly amazing. After that we took a short walk and shared a lot of great conversations. The volunteers guide organisation with the purpose of improving their English is an amazing mission and I am left with an exceptionally amazing impression. I was truly lucky to have shown HanoiFreeTourGuide Foundation. This foudation is non-profit organisation. The donation is up to your convenience. The trip includes paying for transportation, ticket fee, meals, and tipping at your on convenience. At last we visited the Maison meusuem, then returned to the hotel around 14.00Hrs.
Thank you again to Hanoifreetourgide in providing an exceptional experiance. And I have to say big thanks to you Ly Lodon who delivered the a truly memorable tour guide experience that I will cherish. I will back to hanoi again and agin and surely be in touch with “Hanoifreetourgiude”.

“Hanoi Free Tour Guides – Superb Hanoi Little Ambassador

On our first full day in Hanoi my wife and I were met by Hannah, a charming Vietnamese student studying 2 degrees. At the time of our visit (early Feb), the Lunar New Year had just passed and she greeted us with a great smile and a traditional small gift of lucky money. We kicked off with a visit to Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and Hannah chatted away the long queues explaining all about the history and answering our various questions about Vietnamese life. Her English was excellent. A cheap taxi was used to take us to the Temple of Literature where her historical knowledge was first rate. Lunch was extremely good at a very reasonably priced restaurant ( about £8 for 3 of us) before we walked around further Hanoi sites in the afternoon. This full day tour was genuinely free. Asking Hannah why she did it, she altruistically explained that she wanted people to understand the real Vietnam, for visitors to come to love her country, and to give a little bit back to society. She certainly accomplished that. Very many thanks for a fantastic day, Hannah, and for making us so welcome. Ian & Ruth

Hanoi Free Tour Guides is a MUST HAVE service in Hanoi5 of 5 bubbles

We booked Hanoi Free Tour Guides in advance for our first two full days in Hanoi. The first day our lovely guide Anna took us on the full day tour of all the major tourist destinations around Hanoi including Ho Chi Min Mauseleum, the Presidential Palace, the Pagoda, the ancient University of Learning, then guided us to the best Vietnamese restaurant we have eaten in for a beautiful lunch before finishing off our walking tour via the French built prison. We had the best day and without Anna. We would have been completely lost on our first day in Hanoi and would not have seen half as much as we did without her guidance and knowledge.
The second day it was raining heavily at our 8.30 hotel pickup time by our guide Quong so we suggested that we book a Private Car and driver through Ryan (Tourist Manager at Nova Hotel) and together we travelled 1hr out of Hanoi to the Ancient Village, seeing both the silk village and pottery village on the way back after a traditional Vietnamese lunch in a town just outside the ancient village. It was just fantastic to get out of Hanoi city and see the countryside.
This service is free but we chose to make a good donation at the end of each day, some of which goes to the Hanoi Free Tour Guides organisation to assist this wonderful service to continue.
This is a must have service if you are a first time visitor to Hanoi. The guides can be booked in many languages and it would be wise to book in advance before you leave home to make sure you can secure guides on the days you wish to use them.

“Brilliant experience. Thanks Phoung and Thanh Hai”

We arranged the tour on the recommendation of a friend who had used them previously.

We were picked up by Phoung and Thanh Hai (Harry) for the City Tour. It was a fantastic experience.

The schedule was as we requested with excellent additions suggested by the guides. It was our first full day so they showed us how to cross the road (you understand if you have been to Hanoi!!) and then took us around major sites. We went to a cafe which was fun and then for Pho (noodles).

They were at least as good as paid guides.

Only book if you will talk to them as they do it for free but to improve their English which is fine. These guys were great!!

Definitely recommend.

Excellent opportunity to know truly Hanoi

We had two days with the Hanoi free tour guides. First day I asked to go around Hanoi and the second we did a tour outside Hanoi. They were friendly and very punctual, answering to almost all our question about history, culture and places to visit. One guide, had not a perfect english sometimes diff to understand. We didn’t enjoy going by taxi to everywhere although we asked to walk instead of going by taxi but he was always saying it was far (we had 5minutes taxi driving…). However the second day guide was the best guide ever! We were lucky! She was a very interested student, showed us the real and non-turistic atractions we asked for. It was an excellent opportunity to know Hanoi outside tourism attractions and it was much pleasant to have them with us. You have to pay for the taxi, of course.

Joy and Hang were a pleasure to spend time with and a tour with Hanoikids is a must for anyone visiting Hanoi

Highly recommended,

thank Triapdvisor for letting me know Hanoikids.

We booked a full day tour with Hanoi kids in advance. On our first day Yun picked us up in our hotel earlier than our meeting time and she was very kind to wait for us while we still have breakfast. She’s very lovely, polite and knowledgeable. She brought us to the Ho Chin Minh Complex and Temple of Literature which I don’t think I would enjoy without her interesting stories and facts. She also brought us to St. Joseph’s cathedral, around Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake and we had lunch at local Vietamese restaurant to try Bun Cha. If we weren’t too tired from our midnight flight we could still visit a lot of places and I felt really bad when we had to part ways. This free city to tour is a must when in Hanoi!

Here is my afternoon today with 2 young sisters who booked a hanoikids tour in the last minute through Triapdvisor

I got their hotel 15 minutes earlier as normal, waiting for them in the lobby.
Simply, I asked them where they had been to and where they would like to visit. A quick discussion was done to know that their needs were visiting as many places as possible because they had only one day in Hanoi. Then, I took them to HCM complex, one pillar pagoda which were mention in the hanoikids’ tour booking email for a short while before truly being a informative guide at temple of literature where there were many university students having their graduation pics taken. After that taking a taxi to Hoan Kiem lake is a good way to save time for a cup of egg coffee at Giang Cafe, they loved it! 🙂
once again, it was very interesting to visit Dong Xuan Market, Long Bien Bridge to see how locals delivery food, vegetable.

– Time: 2:00Pm-4:45Pm
– Destinations: HCMC, temple of literature, Hoan Kiem Lake, Egg coffee, Dong Xuan Market, Long Bien Bridge,O Quan Truong

“Today I met an awesome couple from the US, (the contry with a lot of tour booking with hanoikids.)
They told me a lot of stories that I had not heard about before from how they met each other to how they have been together organizing a non-profit healthcare company in Myanmar.
Visiting almost all the tourist destinations, 3 coffee stores, several local places helped the tourists get to know more about the beauty of our country.

they also told me that they would definitely recommend hanoikids tour to their friends if they visit hanoi, so I made friends with them on facebook and sent them our tour booking from on our hanoikids official website.

One the way to the hotel, the tourists gave the 30 US dollars and told me that their day with me was much more worth than a private food tour they had taken yesterday.! Nice! J

the thing has made my day is that I got 10 dollars for our organization.
not a lot, but hope that 10 dollars would help us have a better room for the mewbie first meeting, better training program!!!
Try up! “

Hanoikids Tour report 3
Tourist: Emily, Chris, Sam and Emily’s teacher (Singapore)
Guide: Đào và Thanh Thanh
Places: Vietnam national museum of history, HCM complex and Cộng cà phê.
Just by accident, Thanh and i supported each other again and this tour was AWESOME and became one of my memorable tours. We guided 4 tourists from Sing. Three of them are in their middle 30s and their teacher is even older but they are not only nice, polite but also CUTE, open and funny. We laughed almost of the tour due to their cuteness and humors.
Thanh is cool tour guide, she provided us a lot of information about our president. They were very useful and interesting. She is worthy of the being- member of Vietnamese communist party.
During the tour, we learned a lot from them. Each meal, they always shared their drinks and food. The way they took care together and showed their affection. I specially admire the friendship between Emily and Chris.
The reason made this tour special than others was i found my lost sister from Singapore. Thank to Thanh, Emily and I found each other. We are on the same team because we have a lot of things in common.
This tour was so meaningful and made our days. We are very happy and lucky to be your members.
