Vietnam has known as a country with a long tradition of academic excellence. So that can fail to mention two famous universities of Vietnam from ancient times until now : Temple of Literature and National University in Ha Noi.
To begin with , Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first national university, which was built in1070 at the time of Emperor Ly Thanh Tong. The temple is located to the south of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, which is extremely well preserved and is a superb example of traditional-style Vietnamese architecture.
This ancient site offers a lake of literature, the Well of Heavenly Clarity, turtle steles, pavilions, courtyards and passageways that were once used by royalty. Visiting the Temple of Literature we can discover historic buildings from the Ly and Tran dynasties in a revered place that has seen thousands of doctors’ graduate in what has now become a memorial to education and literature. Successful graduates had their names engraved on a stone stele which can be found on top of the stone turtles.
Today people mention Temple of Literature as a famous tourist destination and where investment widely in education is National University. The university has 10 colleges and faculties. This is one of two national universities and also one of the two largest universities in Vietnam, along with Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
National University is the largest comprehensive higher education and research center in Vietnam. It is entrusted with the task of producing highly qualified human resources and talents for the industrialization and modernization of the country. The university holds a special position in Vietnam’s higher education system, operating according to a special regulation promulgated by the Prime Minister. National University reports directly to the Prime Minister and has high autonomy in personnel organization, academic programs, scientific research and technological development, planning and finance, international relations and other fields.It is entitled to work directly with ministries, ministerial level organizations, governmental bodies, people’s committees of central cities and provinces on affairs related to National University. It’s universities, schools, and institutes maintain their juridical entity status as higher education and scientific research institutions regulated by the Law on Education and the Law on Science-Technology.
In short, from the past to the present , two national colleges has contributed greatly in the education of the country ‘s cultural temples . This two buildings certainly will forever stay in the hearts of Vietnamese also their pride.
